Mention food at a ball game, and for most people that doesn't conjure up anything very tempting. Traditionally ballpark food has been pretty bad for the same reason it's so overpriced-you've got a captive audience of people, including a lot of families with children, that want to eat as part of the overall "day at the game" experience, and so will consume pretty much anything you give them.
pulled pork and coleslaw so, our day one agenda consisted of visits to Owl Creek Vineyard, Blue Sky Vineyard, Orlandini Vineyards, and finally Star View Vineyards. This makes for a leisurely, interesting day, with plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and a local lunch stop.
Have plenty of wood chips around since this whole process of smoking over the indirect heat to make this BBQ bbq pulled pork beer crock pot is going to take you abut four to six hours. So plan accordingly with your coals and wood chips, always keeping in mind that you are going to do this over a low, smoky fire. I use an oven thermometer so that I know the temperature of my fire in the box. You do not want to go over 250 degrees F max. And because of this fact it is going to take a long time to smoke.
You see, barbecued food is cooked longer than typical grilled meats. This brings us to the second difference between these two devices - Length of cooking time. You can grill a steak in 12 minutes usually. Chicken might take 40 minutes or so, but it can still be done on a standard grill. If you want proper BBQ pulled pork, for example though, you're going to have to put some serious time in. The barbecuing process can take up to 8 hours sometimes, depending on the size of the cut. So why doesn't the meat burn?
To start off, we will work on some sandwiches. Just recently we covered the almighty "cheese steak" sandwich. For the game, you could make the cheese steak in advance and you could use mini sub rolls... stuff the rolls with the cheese steak and then wrap each one individually in foil and place in a 1/2 pan and place in a 250 degree oven. Your friends could just grab one whenever they are in the mood! Next, you could pig out (L.O.L) on my B.B.Q. slow cooker bbq pulled pork pork... again, this is great because you serve it out of the crock pot. This time you can get some of those little Hawaiian rolls or some potato rolls and make "Pulled pork sliders".
One of the biggest complaint that men have about weddings is the fancy food. This is easily remedied, especially now that comfort food is such a big wedding trend. Set up stations with crowd-pleasing appetizers like mini slow cooker bbq pulled pork sandwiches, mac and cheese shooters, and other hearty fare. The great thing about these appetizers is that your female guests will devour them too. If you really want your wedding to be a hit with the male guests, have a rich chocolate cake instead of a fruity flavor like lemon curd. They will be thrilled!
Lars usually goes with the bbq pulled pork Combo ($15) of Ribs & either Briskit or Pulled Pork. I like their briskit, but the pork is more tender. I've had the BBQ chicken here too, and it was pretty damn good also.
